Walk to School Day

Newbern Middle School  is hosting its annual Walk to School Day at 7:45AM on October 7, 2015. We hope to generate excitement about bicycling and reinforce safe bicycling and walking skills. Walk and Bike to School Day events include a walk, a breakfast treat and presentation on bicycle and pedestrian safety from Valdosta Police Department (SRO - Officer Hamilton).

International Walk to School Day is a global event that involves communities from more than 40 countries walking and biking to school on the same day. It began in 1997 as a one-day event. Over time, this event has become part of a movement for year-round safe routes to school and a celebration

The event was established as “International” in 2000, when Canada and the U.K. joined with the U.S. In 2005, federal legislation established a National Safe Routes to School Program.
